Discovering Solar Power Mid Summer

Has anybody noticed lately that solar panels are popping up everywhere? I have been noticing the light posts are sometimes rigged with a solar panel. I learned these solar panels produce power derived from the sun and store it in a small battery for later use. The city has realized that it is cheaper to do this over the long haul I guess. I think that it takes a small load off of the utility grid and in a small way helps our environment.

Over the summer I lived in a small cabin cruiser. I enjoyed the experience about as much as anyone would imagine. The peaceful days and the fun nights. One thing that was for certain was the sun is very hot and can be very dangerous if not prepared for. A few of my friends got sunburned because they did not prepare for a long stay in direct sunlight.

I got the idea to install solar panels on my boat to produce extra power after my batteries proved unable to keep up with the demand over a day or two out of the marina. For whatever reason my alternator wasn't charging at full capacity and my batteries would drain out slowly. I had to keep a sharp eye on them so I didn't end up stranded in the water with my guest.

So I set out to find some solar panel installers in Chattanooga, TN. I searched around online to see who was offering solar panel installations. Surprisingly I was unable to find any body that would answer my calls or request. I guess I called or emailed two or three different companies with no luck. Then I wondered if I could learn a easy DIY solar panel installation. I found several websites and picked up a few tips to do it myself.

Long story short I ended up installing a solar panel system on my boat and my cabin. This inspired me to look into starting a solar power company that would respond to the need of my fellow Chattanoogans. Stay tuned for more exciting news on this venture!
